Throughout story of St. Catherines Church existence, the story of St. Catherine’s has been one of small country Church serving a village community. Within the last thirty years, however, this role has changed dramatically and today it ministers a large bustling town.

Catherine’s church in Wickford is within the parish of Wickford and Runwell. The current church was rebuilt in the ’s and is based on its original 15th Century design. Byif not before, the Church was dedicated to St Cecilia, the only church in Essex to be so and the bell is the only indication that the church might have been dedicated to St Catherine.

Wickford is an old market town based to the north-east of the borough. The town used to host a cattle market as well as a cinema before the new town was built.
